Former attorney Tom Girardi, the co-founder of Girardi Keese, was charged with embezzling over $15 million from clients. He entered a not-guilty plea in a federal court in Los Angeles on Monday.

Girardi, who has Alzheimer's and is in a court-ordered conservatorship, has been indicted on five counts of wire fraud in LA and eight in Chicago.

Prosecutors claim Girardi concealed settlement terms and misappropriated settlements for personal expenses and firm payroll.

Girardi's competency has not been evaluated by a federal court. He is free on a $250,000 bond and in Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings along with his defunct law firm
