“TWO Badass-Singer-Songwriter STUDS, Two Guitars, One Microphone”
Actor, writer, and musician Tom Wood, known by his musical pseudonym Governor Tom, is set to make his debut performance at the Jeweled Universe in South Pasadena on March 5th, 2023. Tom, who spent his childhood in South Pasadena and teenage years in Pasadena, is returning to his roots to perform alongside indie folk artist Dana Cooper in a show titled “TWO Badass-Singer-Songwriter STUDS, Two Guitars, One Microphone”.
Tickets for the show are priced at $20 and can be purchased by calling 626-399-0066 or 818-421-1993. Tom’s dynamic, indie folk, genre-bending style weaves truthfulness and wit with unapologetic, heartfelt poignancy, drawing inspiration from artists such as Andrew Bird, Leonard Cohen, and Sting. His first two singles, “A Man with a Hat” and “Living Wild,” were featured on Riot Radio’s The Indie Hour Jazz Playlist, which broadcasts from Durham College in Ontario, Canada.
The show at Jeweled Universe marks the beginning of a busy year for Tom. He is currently completing final mixes for his debut EP, which he plans to release this spring. Tom’s musical journey began when he was young, performing in neighborhood garage shows, and later in countless professional musicals and revues. He then pursued a full-time acting career, known worldwide for his performances in films such as The Fugitive, U.S. Marshals, and Apollo 13.
After taking a break from acting, Tom shifted his focus back to music while raising his four sons. In 2020, he began dedicating his time to performing at open mic nights, refining his melodies, lyrics, and style. Creating music has been “an organic experience, and I believe that’s part of its charm.”
Performing live is Tom’s most revered goal, and he is excited to find new roads to explore musically and share his music publicly. “A stage, a live audience, laughter, focus, pathos…nothing beats performing live. I’m grateful,” he says. Following his debut show, Tom plans to release his final single, “Public Eye,” before releasing his EP. Fans of indie folk and genre-bending music are in for a treat at Governor Tom’s debut performance in South Pasadena.
