President Biden to Promote Gun Control in Monterey Park Visit

President Joe Biden will visit Monterey Park on Tuesday, March 14, as part of his West Coast swing to promote his agenda on gun control, climate change and infrastructure.

Biden’s visit to Monterey Park will focus on his efforts to reduce gun violence, which he has called an “epidemic” and a “public health crisis”. He will meet with local leaders and advocates who have been working to prevent shootings and support victims and survivors.

The president will also highlight his administration’s actions to combat gun violence, such as strengthening background checks, banning ghost guns and investing in community-based interventions.

Monterey Park is one of the most diverse cities in Los Angeles County, with a large Asian American population. The city has been affected by several incidents of gun violence in recent years, including a mass shooting at a spa that killed four people in 2019.

The president’s visit comes less than two months after another mass shooting at a dance hall in Monterey Park that left 11 people dead and nine others injured. The victims were mostly older adults who were celebrating the Lunar New Year at the San Gabriel Valley ballroom. The suspect was later found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after a 12-hour manhunt.12345

Biden’s visit will coincide with the anniversary of the March for Our Lives, a student-led movement that emerged after the 2018 Parkland school shooting and demanded stricter gun laws.

The president’s trip to Southern California will also include stops in Los Angeles and San Diego, where he will attend fundraisers for his re-election campaign and the Democratic Party.

Biden’s West Coast tour comes amid rising tensions with China over Taiwan and human rights issues. The president is expected to address these topics at the Summit of Americas in Los Angeles on Thursday.
