On Thursday, San Marino police arrested a man suspected of carjacking a vehicle in the Temple City area, while a female accomplice remained at large. The arrest came after an "automated license plate reader" notified officers about a stolen vehicle near San Gabriel and California boulevards in San Marino at around 9 a.m., according to San Marino police Sgt. Jeremy Bestpitch.
When the officers attempted to detain the suspects, the vehicle fled, leading to a pursuit that lasted for about two minutes before it was canceled after the suspects lost sight of the officers. The car was later found abandoned in San Gabriel's 800 block of East Valley Boulevard, and a witness reported seeing a man and a woman fleeing through a rear parking lot. While the man was subsequently arrested in the area, the woman remains at large.
As of now, the man's identity has not been released. Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact the San Marino Police Department at 626-300-0720 or provide information anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
