Repairs have been completed on a sinkhole that caused a chunk of concrete to fall onto Western Avenue from the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Glendale. The incident occurred at around 5:34 p.m. on Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Upon responding to the scene, Glendale police officers reported that concrete was actively falling from a hole that initially measured one-foot-by-one-foot in the middle of the freeway. The hole appeared to grow to two-feet-by-two-feet by 6:10 p.m.
To ensure public safety, the CHP issued a Sigalert at 6:08 p.m., which resulted in the closure of all southbound freeway lanes. Meanwhile, Glendale police shut down eastbound and westbound lanes of Western between Flower and Lake streets. The Sigalert was later lifted at around 12:20 a.m. by the CHP.
