The Los Angeles Regional Science Olympiad, held at Rio Hondo College on March 4, 2023, witnessed the participation of a group of fourteen South Pasadena High School students. The team faced off against 57 other teams, and despite the challenging competition, they managed to secure an impressive 8th-place finish.
The South Pasadena High School Science Olympiad team proved to be a force to be reckoned with, excelling in multiple events and clinching six top-six finishes. Abby Chen and William Chang worked together to earn 6th place in Cell Biology, while Ada Bild and Alyssa Rocca's joint effort resulted in 4th place in Chemistry Lab. Tia Guang and Ty Yue's Forestry performance won them 1st place, while Alexa Chang and Wings Zhang secured 6th place in It's About Time. Kathy Tam and Tia Guang collaborated to earn 6th place in Remote Sensing, and Clare Maurer and Sarah Baek's teamwork resulted in 1st place in Write It Do It.
The South Pasadena High School Science Olympiad team comprised of students from grades 9 to 12, namely Sarah Baek, Ada Bild, Alexa Chang, William Chang, Abby Chen, Hanna Diop, Tia Guang, Clare Maurer, Krish Patel, Alyssa Rocca, Kathy Tam, Kai Tilley, Ty Yue, and Wings Zhang.
The team's remarkable performance has earned them a place in the state tournament, scheduled for April. This achievement showcases the students' dedication and hard work in preparing for the competition, highlighting their passion for science education and learning.
The South Pasadena High School Science Olympiad team is thrilled to have the opportunity to compete at the state level and is already preparing for the upcoming challenge.
