Update on Oaklawn Bridge and Waiting Station Temporary Closure

Image

The Oaklawn Bridge and Waiting Station located between Fair Oaks Avenue and Oaklawn Avenue in South Pasadena have been temporarily closed due to the emergence of new cracks. The Public Works Department is working with structural engineers to analyze the bridge's safety before repairs or reopening are considered.

The decision to close the bridge was made out of an abundance of caution, following the observation of cracking along the bridge walls. The staff has deemed it prudent to review the bridge's structural integrity and consider the available options to address the observed cracking.

The team will provide more information on the state of the bridge, any recommended improvements, and the costs for City Council consideration once work is completed.

As a related effort, staff will assess the historic Waiting Station's condition, evaluate the costs to repair the damaged roof, and restore other elements of the structure.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused and will keep the community updated with more information as it becomes available.
