South Pasadena Police Respond to Distraction Burglary, Warn Residents to Verify Identity of Strangers at the Door
On March 22, 2023, at 10:50 a.m., South Pasadena Police officers were called to a burglary report in the 300 Block of Camino Del Sol. According to the victim, a suspect pretending to be a utility worker knocked on their door wearing a bright orange vest, claiming that there was a burst pipe in the backyard. While the victim followed the first suspect to the backyard, another suspect entered the residence and was confronted by the victim's wife. The second suspect claimed to be looking for his co-worker, and both suspects fled the scene. Fortunately, the victims were unharmed and no loss was reported.
To prevent similar incidents, the South Pasadena Police Department recommends not opening the door to strangers and verifying the identity of anyone claiming to be a service provider by contacting the company they work for. The department also advises residents to be cautious of anyone attempting to lure them out of their homes and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the police.
