Girls Tennis:

In their season opener, the Lady Minutemen met the Panthers of Yeshiva University of Los Angeles (YULA) for their first-ever meeting (or at least in the modern era) at Whittier Narrows Tennis Center.

Maranatha was only able to field eight players and spotted YULA a 3-0 lead to start the match, due to forfeiting three sets.

Despite the disadvantage, MHS played a well-balanced match and was paced by their singles line-up of #1 Stella Hsieh (6-0, 6-0, 6-0), #2 Amanda Yee (6-4, 6-0, 6-0), and #3 Audrey Loh (6-1, 6-0, 6-1)

The doubles teams of #1 Kasey McCoy/Violet Salvo and #2 Riley McCoy/Stella Chen both went 2-1 on the day, compiling identical scorelines of 2-6, 6-1, 6-0.

These victories also marked the first-ever victories of each of these doubles players’ careers, the first full season for each of them.

This year’s Division 5 squad is very new to the sport of tennis and will be looking to gain experience and learn quickly as the season progresses.

Up next: The Lady Minutemen is the formidable Division 3 Lady Aztecs of Mark Keppel on Tuesday, September 7 at Mark Keppel HS.
